Laughs at the Lindauer 2007 Queenstown Winter Festival

Big Laughs at the Lindauer Queenstown Winter Festival

An all-star lineup of New Zealand’s award-winning comedians, and one funny Canadian, will descend on Queenstown for the 33rd Lindauer Queenstown Winter Festival in June.

Four major comedy events are on this year’s calendar, the biggest ‘Laugh Fest’ the winter festival has seen to date.

Star attraction this year and new to the Queenstown festival comedy scene is Auckland’s Dai Henwood. His comedy credentials are undisputed -- he won the TV2 Billy T Comedy Award in 2002 at the age of 24, making him the youngest person ever to win the coveted prize.

At the 2005 Comedy Guild Awards he was named Best Male Comedian, and followed that in 2006 with the Best Comedy MC award.

Familiar festival faces such as Jeremy Corbett, Te Radar and Canada’s Jeremy Elwood make a welcome return to Queenstown’s winter warm-up, the American Express Great Comedy Debate, where together with funny girls Michele A’Court and Ginette McDonald and Invercargill Mayor Tim Shadbolt they battle the ‘moot’ – Is Queenstown more Auckland than Auckland itself?  MC Jason Gunn is there to referee the ensuing chaos.

The ‘girls’ get their funny night out with the first Lindauer Laugh Fest performance (Wed 27 June) pitching A’Court, New Zealand’s best female comedian from 2002-2006, up against humorous actress, producer and presenter McDonald (aka Lynn of Tawa) and alongside local comedienne Emma Lange, while token male Te Radar has the job of MC.

The ‘boys’ get their night out with the second Lindauer Laugh Fest performance (Thurs 28 June). Te Radar is in the ring again, this time on potentially more familiar MC ground with the sharpwitted Corbett, stand up comedy king Elwood and the hilarious Henwood.

If the funny bone hasn’t been tickled enough, round off the week with a pair of entertainers dubbed “New Zealand’s finest artistic export since lamb cutlets”.

Professional yodellers and ‘cultural ambassadors’ The Topp Twins are back in all their glory with a theatre show based on their life stories and laced with political satire at the Arrowtown Hall (Fri 29 June).

The Lindauer Queenstown Winter Festival runs from June 22 to July 1, with a mix of ticketed and free activities on the calendar. Tickets are on sale through Ticket Direct nationwide and i-site Queenstown, with Earlybird prices available until April 27 for the Lindauer Jazz Night and the BIG Night Out.

Media are welcome to request interviews with any of the comedy performers taking part in the Lindauer Queenstown Winter Festival. For further media information or images please contact:
